A shooter with lanes counts the map, not the frags

You shoot from third person here, but you win on economy: lanes, creeps, objectives and timers decide more than a lucky fight in an alley.

What follows for the menus:

  • ESP answers who left the lane, and a missing hero is more dangerous than a visible one;
  • the map shows rotations whole, which is closer to a MOBA minimap than to a shooter radar;
  • creeps and objectives tell you where resources are being taken, not where a fight is;
  • aim assistance is valued less, since targets ride ziplines and change height constantly.

The game is still in development, and that is part of the deal

Updates arrive more often here than in finished games, and they change more than balance. Software for a game like that breaks more often and lives shorter between patches.

The question of how fast an update ships belongs before the purchase, not on the day the build stops launching.

Valve’s anti-cheat and the frogs

The game installs no kernel driver: Valve takes a different route where most of the work sits on the servers and on player reports. The first pass in September 2024 is the part everyone remembers — detected cheaters were turned into frogs mid-match instead of quietly banned.

The developer has since said a serious version of the anti-cheat is a priority. One practical thing follows: the niche is calm today, knowingly for now, and the current rules are not something to plan around.

From visuals to a full menu

The range in this niche is narrow, and the choice is not made by counting features:

  1. Visuals only. Heroes, creeps, distances, with your aim left alone.
  2. Visuals with the map. The whole picture of rotations and objectives joins in.
  3. Full menus. Aim assistance and world sections.

Not everyone climbs to the top of that ladder. In a game where half the fight happens in the air, smooth tracking is visible without any anti-cheat at all.

Questions that come up most

Does Deadlock install a kernel driver? No. Valve’s anti-cheat works differently, and most of it lives on the servers.

Were cheaters really turned into frogs? Yes, that is how the first pass looked in 2024. It was a demonstration rather than a standing rule.

Why do builds update more often here? The game is in development. Patches ship more often and change more than in finished projects.

Is an aimbot needed in a game about movement? Less often than it seems. Targets change height constantly, and smooth tracking shows from the outside.
